About the Opportunity

Responsible for programming direct mail jobs. This includes selecting, sorting, formatting and manipulating data to meet client mail instructions and U.S. postal requirements for mail certification. Programming includes letter setup; laying out variables fields with static text and graphics and merging the setup with data for laser printing. Takes daily direction from Lead Programmer but reports to Director.

Responsibilities:

- Interprets and execute job programming instructions without direct supervision.
- Backs up Programming Processor as required.
- Prepare data for direct mail per job instructions. Can require merge/purge, package -election, seed insertion, CASS, QUALIFICATION and telescoping.
- Perform market communications ("letter") setup per instructions. Spools output for cutsheet or continuous lasering, inkjet production, and other mail production equipment as required.
- Perform quality checks on data manipulation and laser samples before passing to Account Services.
- Proactively and efficiently communicate with Account Services, Lead Programmers, Applications Managers and Directors on status of jobs, problems, questions and schedules.
- Troubleshoot job problems or failures, getting assistance from Senior and Lead programmers as required.
- Archive jobs and cleans up outdated files.
- Adhere to policies and guidelines pertaining to confidentiality, security, safety and professional conduct.
- Other duties as assigned.

Background/Skills Required:

- Bachelors degree preferred, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Prefer 1+ years experience in direct mail industry.
- Course work or practical exposure to a structured programming language such as Visual Basic, C, PERL, COBOL, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to write simple programs in such a language.
- Course work or practical exposure to database such as Access, FoxPro, SQL, Btrieve.
- Basic knowledge of electronic printing concepts and laser printer operations.
- Strong interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills.
- Basic Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work effectively in a cross functional dynamic team environment.
- Ability to maintain positive, professional demeanor at all times.
- Project support, ability to manage multiple tasks at any one time.
- Attention to detail, ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
